Alistair Mayne

Alistair graduated as 1st placed student in his year at Liverpool Medical School. He completed postgraduate Orthopaedic Training initially in the East of Scotland before finishing higher surgical training in Northern Ireland, and was awarded the Sir Walter Mercer Gold Medal for achieving the highest mark for all sittings of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Fellowship exam (FRCS Tr & Orth) in the UK and Ireland in 2021.
Following completion of higher surgical training, Alistair initially undertook a 12 month sub-specialty fellowship in young adult hip/ hip preservation surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. This involved specialist training in hip arthroscopy surgery, pelvic and femoral osteotomy, hip resurfacing and complex hip replacements in younger patients.
To further his skills and knowledge in sports surgery and management of hip and knee injuries, Alistair then moved to Australia to undertake the prestigious Perth Sports Surgery Fellowship. This provided world class sub-specialist training in all aspects of sports hip and knee surgery. Following completion of fellowship training, Alistair returned home to Northern Ireland to commence practice as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Outside of work, Alistair is happily married with 2 young children. He leads an active family life enjoying the outdoors. Personal sporting interests now include running, cycling and water sports. He has a strong interest in sports generally, and actively follows the Ulster and Irish rugby teams.
