Jo McEwan

Jo studied medicine at the University of Southampton, UK and completed foundation training in the Wessex region (south central England) followed by basic surgical training in Bath. Jo returned to the Wessex rotation for her higher orthopaedic training, working in Salisbury, Basingstoke, Dorchester and Southampton Major Trauma Centre. During her orthopaedic training, Jo took time out of her programme to compete a PhD investigating the use of osteoinductive proteins delivered in a nanoclay hydrogel for targeted bone formation. This was undertaken through the University of Southampton under the supervision of Professor Richard Oreffo and Professor Doug Dunlop.
Following her completion of training, Jo travelled to Adelaide (South Australia) for a fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty and sports surgery with Dr Andrew Comley, Professor David Campbell, Dr Pete Lewis and Dr Will Duncan. Jo gained experience in computer navigated and robotic arthroplasty as well as hip arthroplasty utilising a direct anterior approach. Jo then came to Perth for further experience in sports surgery and joint preservation techniques with the Perth Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic, prior to commencing her fellowship as the Perth Sports Surgery Fellow in August 2024.
Jo is very passionate about sports. She has competed internationally at gymnastics, rowing, CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting. Jo still trains and competes regularly at weightlifting, including competing at Australian National Championships last year! Jo also enjoys snowboarding, wakeboarding and is learning to play golf.
Jo is returning to Salisbury, UK to take a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic post with a specialist interest in lower limb arthroplasty and sports knee surgery.
